Mascara was used in ancient Egypt, about 4 thousand years ago. For its preparation used kayal in combination with malachite and other minerals. Such pristine mascara tinted eyes and eyebrows.

The recipes and methods of preparation have changed many times since then, but the “natural” mascara produced in our time contains the same basic components as in antiquity: pigments, oils and wax.

True, in modern products, in addition to these components, there are many other substances that may be unsafe for health - parabens, propylene glycol, aluminum powder, cetearate-20, benzyl alcohol etc.

At the very least, they can lead to allergic reactions; therefore, it is better to use safe cosmetics, including natural organic mascara, although its cost may be somewhat higher than normal.

To save money, you can cook it yourself at home. In this article you will find several recipes of varying degrees of difficulty of preparation, among which you can choose the best one for yourself.

A good mascara should:

  • Extend, thicken, twist, darken and separate eyelashes,
  • Do not cause irritation and allergic reactions,
  • Dry on the eyelashes, but not on the brush,
  • After applying it should not be poured or smeared, at the same time, if necessary, it is easy to wash off with makeup remover,
  • Feed and strengthen cilia.

In fact, it is not easy to fulfill all these conditions, so when making natural carcass, you will probably have to experiment with different recipe options and the number of ingredients in them, but the result is worth it.

In this case, you can prepare a relatively safe cosmetics, the ingredients of which will be exactly known. Many recipes are very simple, and all the ingredients for them can be found in a regular store and pharmacy.

Cooking Tools

  1. Small glass, metal or porcelain bowl (1 or 2 pieces, depending on the recipe),
  2. A wooden ice cream stick for mixing or something,
  3. Measuring spoon,
  4. A tube with a lid for the finished carcass,
  5. Syringe (for pouring the resulting mass into a tube),
  6. Brush for applying the finished product on the eyelashes.

Wash thoroughly with soap and disinfect with alcohol before starting.

The recipe for natural carcass on a plant-based

  • 4 tablets of activated carbon (1/4 tsp. Of black or brown iron oxide can be replaced),
  • 1/4 tsp corn starch (can be replaced by 1/4 tsp. of sericite, titanium dioxide or other bulk powder used to make cosmetics),
  • 1/2 tsp liquids for contact lenses or just boiled water,
  • 3-4 drops of almond oil (can be replaced with jojoba oil, olive, coconut, grape seed, etc.).

Cooking process:

  1. Crush activated carbon (can be directly in the package),
  2. Pour coal in a bowl,
  3. Add corn starch and mix thoroughly,
  4. Add to the resulting mass 3-4 drops of almond oil, stir,
  5. Add water and mix thoroughly again.
  6. The resulting ink is poured into a container to stand for an hour.

You can use. In fact, I did not get this mascara the first time. But the second time it turned out better. On the eyelashes kept not very good, but I have very soft and thin eyelashes.

Cooking:

  1. Crush activated carbon, this can be done right in the package,
  2. Break the egg, separate the yolk and put it in a bowl,
  3. Pour coal on the yolk,
  4. Mix,
  5. Pour into a container and can be used.

The recipe is very simple, and the mascara lays down quite well, there is the effect of lengthening the eyelashes and the eyelashes curl. It is also very easily removed. Store it only in the refrigerator. Expiration date no more than 2 days.

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons of pure aloe vera gel or one freshly cut large aloe vera leaf,
  • 10 tablets of activated carbon
  • Less than 1/4 tsp of cosmetic or bentonite clay
  • 1 capsule of vitamin E,
  • 1/3 teaspoon glycerin.

Jojoba Butter Recipe

  • Activated carbon,
  • Jojoba oil,
  • Vitamin E capsules.

All the ingredients you need mix in equal proportions so that was the texture of liquid sour cream. This mascara dries on the eyelashes longer than the store, but does not stratify and perfectly moisturizes the eyelashes.

Makeup removal is done as usual: warm water or a cotton pad and make-up remover. Keep better for a short time, in the refrigerator, for a week. But this amount is only enough for a couple of uses, so you should not be afraid that the product will deteriorate.

Natural mascara with aloe juice - a simple recipe

  • 2 tablets of activated carbon
  • A few drops of aloe vera juice (you can use fresh aloe juice, or you can buy aloe vera gel, it contains about 98% of natural juice).

Pound coal tablets, add a little aloe vera juice there (approximately in a 1: 1 ratio). Mascara is ready! This composition can be used as a liquid eyeliner.. If the consistency is thick, with the help of aloe juice you can always make it as you need.

Beeswax recipe

  1. 2 tablets of activated carbon
  2. a few drops of aloe vera,
  3. beeswax (or almond oil).

Beeswax makes the texture more thick and viscous, provides good adhesion to the cilia. This recipe does not change the consistency for a long time, while the others eventually thicken or simply dry..

Remember that mascara from natural ingredients has a limited shelf life. It does not use preservatives, so it should not be stored for more than 2 weeks. The use of natural ingredients does not guarantee the absence of allergic reactions. Therefore, before applying mascara must be tested on the skin.

About the benefits

Someone would say that if homemade mascara did not differ in its effectiveness with the purchase price, it would not be used. True, the natural product has a shorter shelf life and cannot guarantee a fivefold increase in the length of the eyelashes, but it has other advantages:

  1. Environmentally friendly: no chemical additives or fragrances, only natural ingredients.
  2. You yourself control the whole process, so you can be confident in quality.
  3. Product cost is very low.
  4. Does not spoil eyelashes, does not dry them and does not make heavier.

There are also difficulties, in the first place they relate to the required characteristics of cosmetics. Mascara should tint eyelashes, make them longer and more voluminous, while not crumble, not dry in a tube, but not smeared on the eyes. If manufacturers have all the recipes and proportions to create such effects already identified, then you will probably have to experiment a bit and try different recipes. But before we go to them, let's decide what you need.

Tools

Of course, a complete list of things cannot be universal, because it will depend on the chosen method of preparation. However, there are tools that you will need in any case:

  • A jar for mixing all the components, it can be a container made of glass, plastic or porcelain.
  • Stirrer stick, ideal for making it out of wood. Use the available tools: ice cream sticks or sushi devices.
  • Measuring spoon, if not, then you can use kitchen scales. In the absence of both, you need to know that 5 ml of liquid is placed in a teaspoon, and 18 ml in a dining room spoon.
  • Capacity to store the resulting product. It is desirable that she did not let the light through, the main requirement is a tight-fitting lid.
  • Clean brush from the mascara.
  • Rubber gloves to protect your hands.

Here with such uncomplicated devices you can start cooking homemade carcasses.

Tip! All tools must be clean, it is better to sanitize containers beforehand, since the infection may cause a reaction on the eyes.

Possible recipes

Natural mascara with your own hands - it's easy. The main thing is to choose a suitable way for you to create it.

For girls with sensitive eyes, mascara based on aloe vera plant is perfect. Take activated carbon as a paint, two tablets will be enough. Grind them into powder, add 4-5 drops of aloe gel to it, you can buy it at the pharmacy. Stir the mixture until smooth, everything is ready.

Tip! Aloe vera gel can be replaced with agave juice, it is also sold in pharmacies.

We have already said that homemade mascara is very economical, and this is proof of this:

  • Activated carbon - 20 rubles / pack.
  • Aloe vera gel - 90 rubles.

At the same time and that, and another component you have enough for a few preparations.

If you have brittle dull cilia, then you fit vitamin mascara. In equal proportions, mix activated charcoal powder, jojoba oil, liquid vitamin E or vitamin B. Mix everything until a homogeneous consistency.

Such cosmetics will not only give the cilia color and volume, but also improve their condition.

Tips to help you prepare your home carcass:

If you have short cilia by nature, but you want to make your look expressive, then to already familiar activated carbon add well whipped yolk at room temperature. Take care that no lumps form. Store such cosmetics can only be in the refrigerator, a period of not more than 2 days.

All three options have a rather liquid consistency, which is not very convenient for application, therefore we offer you a more professional recipe for homemade carcasses.

Mascara in a bar

This form of eye makeup was popular in the first half of the 20th century, when the industry of mass production of cosmetics was gaining momentum. For the preparation we need the already familiar ingredients: coal, cornstarch, water or liquid for contact lenses. We take these components in the same proportion as in the previous recipe.

Add to them have half a teaspoon of jojoba oil or almond oil, as well as ¼ tsp of beeswax or candelilla wax. You can find it in a pharmacy or shops with environmental products, the average price for 100 grams of beeswax is 150 rubles.

Grind activated charcoal and mix it well with cornstarch. Put the wax in a separate bowl, add the oil of your choice. Melt the mixture in a water bath, you can use a microwave, the main thing is not to overheat.

As soon as the wax with the oil becomes liquid, mix them and quickly add the dry mixture. Put the mixture in a container, using a paper napkin, tamp the mass so that you have a bar.

Tip! Similar mascara is stored longer and is better applied, but due to wax it can dry out quickly. In this case, simply lower the container into a container with warm water.

The girls who tried to cook homemade mascara, note that it is not always possible to master this or that recipe from the first time. Here are some practical recommendations for you to quickly master the process.

Useful tips

Each of the recipes prepared on the basis of average proportions. However, now you know how to make your own mascara at home and you can change the technology of preparation at your discretion.

For example, in any composition you can add a few drops of liquid retinol, it will perfectly affect the health of eyelashes. Also, the vitamins of group B will shine and shine by adding a little glycerin, you will notice that mascara has become better applied.

It is not necessary to always use black mascara, change charcoal for food coloring and create your own unique look. To create an evening makeup you can add fine glitter to the mascara.

Tip! Powder eye shadow can also be used as a coloring element. They are perfect for creating a festive look, mascara can be blue, lilac, green, sparkling.

Remember that organic foods have a very limited shelf life. For egg carcasses it is two days, for the rest 5-6 days in the refrigerator. Exceptions may be wax carcasses, however, they should not be used for more than 14 days.

All cooked products are easily washed off, but their environmental friendliness does not guarantee the absence of an allergic reaction. It happens that girls have individual intolerance to oils or wax. To protect yourself, first check the reaction of the skin on a small area.

Of course, only you decide to stop at the purchase of the carcass or make it with your own hands. After all, each option has its pros and cons. But to have on hand recipes for homemade cosmetics is useful, because no one knows when they can come in handy.

For those who can not do without decorative cosmetics, I suggest three easy recipes mascara.

Method number 1. In order to make mascara, you need 2 tablets of charcoal activated crushing and add a couple of drops of aloe juice, mix the mixture and apply on your eyelashes with a clean brush prepared in advance. Also, this mixture can be used as eyeliner.

Method number 2. This one is the same as the previous one, but here there is another ingredient that makes the mascara more viscous and thick, and it is nothing like beeswax. However, if it is problematic to get it, you can also add almond or coconut oil, which will provide your carcass a longer shelf life. The ink obtained in this way is perfectly applied, and it can be washed off with the help of warm water.

Method number 3. In this case, you need to mix activated carbon and castor oil, as well as add vitamin E oil. This product does not dry at all and nourishes the eyelashes with all the elements they need. You can also add 1 drop of vitamin E to any mascara you bought, and then the eyelashes will simply become irresistible.

One cautionary moment. No matter how useful homemade mascara is, you should still test it for an allergic reaction. To do this, you can put a little of the resulting composition on the wrist and for some time to observe the behavior of your skin. And if everything is in order, then feel free to use homemade cosmetics in your everyday make-up.

Be sure to try as soon as I buy wax. Found a similar recipe, I will stick to it:

Empty tuba from the mascara
Coconut oil
Activated carbon
Measuring dishes
Water
mortar and pestle

1. Take an empty bottle from under the carcass and wash it thoroughly. Pay special attention to the brush. That it can serve as the main breeding ground for microbes. You can even immerse it in bleach for a few moments. The main thing is not to forget to rinse thoroughly.
2. Measure the volume of carcass you need, pouring water into a tube and then pouring it into a measuring cup or spoon. Mold about a quarter. See how many milliliters are left. That is how much fit in your tuba, given the volume occupied by the brush.
3. Allow the tube and brush to dry.
4. Put the desired amount of coconut oil in a glass bowl.
5. Powder activated carbon tablet.
6. Add some charcoal powder to coconut oil. Stir thoroughly.
7. Add powder and stir until you get the desired shade.
You got a base black mascara.

8. Now you can add some vitamins in liquid form. For example, vitamin A (retinol), which is responsible for the growth of eyelashes. Vitamins of group B will add shine and extra strength to eyelashes.
Grapefruit essential oil will serve as a good preservative.

9.Part coconut oil, you can replace the beeswax - it gives the eyelashes additional visual volume. The wax must first be melted and added to cool, but liquid.
Castor oil is added to ensure the elasticity of the eyelashes.
Glycerin will not allow eyelashes to stick together, and the mascara itself will protect against the appearance of lumps.

10. If you need a different color mascara, add the right color pigments or food coloring to coconut oil. You can also get the desired shade by rubbing the rest of the eye shadow into dust and adding this powder to the base.

After you have finished experimenting, collect the mascara in a tube and store it in the refrigerator.
